His third season in 1992 was marked by his first win at Rockingham, and in 1993 he secured three more wins, finishing sixth overall in the points standings. Burton’s move to the Winston Cup Series brought further success, including a win at the Mall.com 400 at Darlington Raceway in 2000 and the Mountain Dew Southern 500 in the following season​​.
